Browsing a Korean Origami Convention book (the 6th – 2015), as you do, I stumbled across a Platypus I had not seen before:
Designed by Fernando Gilgado, this genius design uses duo paper to isolate the beak, tail and legs from the body in a really interesting way.
After some simple pre-creasing, you collapse to a base that looks really useful for all sorts of long critters with head/tail and 2 pairs of legs (like a crocodile, say)
I had a failed fold on a lovely sheet of 40cm square thick Shadow Thai – so I IRONED it flat and it was like a fresh bit of paper. Although, in places, it is thick, there is room to shimmy paper out of the way to make the folds possible.
I like that the legs are thinner and seem articulate – indeed they are poseable. there is a cute expression on it’s face and a good sense of volume on the body/tail.
I cannot believe I was unaware of this model, it is lovely and my #1 pick for origami Platypus models (of which I think I have folded most).
