My First Buzz Composition
Basic Doof n' Bass

Back | Forward

Buzz is really flexible and full of options - this presents a confusing interface for a Buzz newbie. Presented in the following sequence of pages is an approach to song creation designed merely to show you how to make organised noise. When you become comfortable with Buzz, you will no doubt find your own way of using the editors provided.

This tutorial will begin by creating a simple kick drum rhythm (doof, doof..), will then add cymbals for accent (tish-tish) amongst the doofs and build up layers of complexity until we have something resembling a tune. In doing so, key terminology and some standard Buzz techniques will be presented with the hope of providing a starting point for you to explore.

When you launch Buzz, you are initially presented with the Machine View Screen:

mouse over to learn the names of the parts
Buzz Machine View Screen the master - all machines eventually end up here machine view pattern editor sequence editor play song stop song record song loop song wave table editor text version notes new..open..save song cut..copy..paste master volume beats per minute ticks per beat machine view desktop timer/progress indicator

The Master is the machine that sends the song to your soundcard. We construct a music making apparatus on this screen that is made up of Generators (machines that make noise) and Effects (machines that change the nature of the noise being fed to them). The machines are wired together to pipe the sound from one machine to another. If a machine is to be heard, it must be wired eventually to the master, but may get there via a chain of other machines.

Go forward to add and configure a drum machine.....
